Jo Hilditch British Cassis is made to a traditional Creme de Cassis recipe with blackcurrants from our beautiful Herefordshire/Welsh Borders. This blackcurrant alcholic drink (13%) can be used in all seasons for numerous cocktails and delicious recipes. It is well known that red wine has high levels of anti-oxidants - our British Creme de cassis has even more; indeed blackcurrants contain more anti-oxidants than any other fruit.
Jo Hilditch's family have been carefully growing blackcurrants on the south facing slopes of their Herefordshire farm for three generations.
Perhaps it wasn’t the perfect summer for everyone – too wet, too cold, too British! But for Jo Hilditch British Cassis it has been perfect. This year’s summer weather has suited Jo’s blackcurrants allowing her to make what she considers is her best batch of Cassis ever.
Jo’s hard work has paid off – her cassis has won a gold star in the Great Taste Awards and was short-listed for the Telegraph/Sainsbury’s Taste of Britain Award.
Jo’s farm in Herefordshire had over 13 inches of rain in early summer but the few days of glorious sun allowed the berries to sweeten up just enough to make a perfect blend of Cassis. The Cassis is nearing the end of fermentation and will be bottled during the next month.
Jo says, “I am thrilled to have won a gold star in these awards and feel honoured that ours is the only Cassis to have done so. We have bottled the best of the British Summer – so what better way to beat the winter blues by cheering up your drink with a splash of black!
“We have been able to make more Cassis than ever this year due to the bumper crop of blackcurrants. This has meant that we have been able to increase production of Cassis with Gin - a winter tipple that will warm your toes whilst reminding you of the spirit of a true British summer!”
“We are also launching a new 100ml bottle, which is a miniature version of the classic British Cassis bottle but is the perfect size for a present. Or for anyone ahead of the game – a perfect size for a stocking filler!”
